This website is one of many projects I have had in the back of my mind for the longest time.  I am proud to finally take this on and to relish in the process of churning the pages as this develops into an informative and educational website.

I have had an interest in this project since the monuments first fall (1978).  It was during a time when I was collecting (old) newspapers, and newspaper clippings of things that interested me at the time. The fall of the monument was a big event at the time. What further kept my interest was my mother worked with Carl Robare's wife, and I was able to see, first hand, the Soldier in Mr. Robare's garage.

I moved out of the area around 1989. I returned to North Adams in 2003. Driving past the monument everyday conjured up some old feelings and concerns. I have had the idea to compile a booklet about the monument to donate to the library. Whilst involved with some other projects that involve the internet I came to the realization that maybe a website would be better. It would certainly reach more eyes! So...the trick was coordinating all that I know and have with all that I need to know...and found that I didn't know alot! Through more research and meeting with Mr. Robare I found that I have something to offer the citizens of North Adams.
